It’s the 1910s and 7-year old Madicken and her younger sister, Lisabet, live with their mother and father in the house Junibacken. The film takes us back to a Sweden which has disappeared and yet we recognise still today many of the issues it raises. We see injustice and happiness through Madicken’s eyes, and follow her as she develops as a human being. The film raises many discussions on how life was “back then” and what it’s like to be a child, then and now.
