Water is a necessity of life that not everyone has access to. In Niger’s desert, it is a long way to the nearest well. Twelve-year-old Houlaye has to walk several kilometres to get there. Many of the village’s inhabitants, including Houlaye’s mother, leave the village and those that are left are constantly thirsty. Meanwhile, a rumour goes around that there is water deep in the earth, right under where they live.
