Reaching the young audience
Reaching the Young Audience – Online at BUFFindustry & live at Panora Tickets: 60 kr. Accreditation & gold pass: free. Held in English. BUFF looks at the current film offering for the young audience. What are this year’s trends? What issues are important to young people today? Looking at the films screened this year at BUFF, we find climate, environment, mental health, identity and gender as clear themes. We have invited two lecturers who will guide us deeper and cast a new light on these pressing issues. The seminar ends with a discussion. Helena Hörnfeldt, associate professor of ethnology at Stockholm University, has conducted interview studies on children’s fears, where the climate crisis has proven to be a recurring theme. In a mini-lecture, she shares her research on children’s and young people’s climate anxiety and puts the fears of the earth’s downfall in a historical perspective. Tone Ottilie, film director, graduated from the Danish Film School in 2021. In her short films she portrays young people and the world they live in emphasizing the importance of involving the target group by actually getting to know and listening to them. Her graduation film Disasters, shown on BUFF, is about 16-year-old Liv who falls in love with a girl, at the same time as she struggles with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The presentations are followed by a panel discussion where some of this year’s BUFF directors reflect on themes and how to make films important to a young audience. Programmet Långfilm – project in development
Accreditation or gold pass only Programmet Långfilm is a development project by Film i Skåne where we look at three feature film projects that are in the very early stages of development. Programmet Långfilm aims to find new voices within feature film in Skåne. Six projects are selected to participate in the project, which lasts for 18 months, and participants focus on the development of a fiction film. Participants receive individual coaching sessions and attend workshops. Each project is assigned a specially selected script coach as well as cash. Once the development project is completed, the participants’ projects should be ready for a funding round and could make it all the way to filming. Programmet Långfilm is managed by Film i Skåne together with The Swedish Centre for Dramatic Writing. The project is financed through the Swedish Film Institute’s Talent To Watch and the Region Skåne Cultural Committee. Lite mer än en kram “Imagine being 13 and having a sister who is 15. She gets a new classmate, Amanda, who has just moved here from Stockholm. They start hanging out at your house, sitting in the kitchen drinking coffee, watching films – that kind of thing. Later, it turns out that Amanda wants to do things with you, things you could only ever dream about.” Manne is starting Year 7 and Amanda is starting Year 9 like his older sister, Moa. Their love is doomed from the start – yet neither of them can do anything to stop their feelings. Tid A young boy is about to play the most important football game of his life while struggling with grief in the wake of his best friend’s death. When he tries to move on, he meets his dead friend’s brother who wants to avenge his death. Their sorrow and anger culminate in rivalry. Participant: Filson Ali, filmmaker Nipster Fifteen-year old Chris pulls the audience into a colourful, creative and pulsating wasps nest of so called “Nipsters”, nazi hipsters. Chris is part of the creative media collective which is pro-climate action and the protection of animals – but above all a better Sweden, for Swedes. Chris confuses identity with belonging, and the belonging she gets from the collective, by standing by nazism, is everything. Chris is offered the opportunity to be a face of the new ‘green nazi’ movement. It’s all or nothing. How many bridges will she burn before t it all comes back to her? Tickets: 60kr Accreditation & gold pass: free A hugely popular, recurring event at the festival is Work In Progress. This year we will be presenting four upcoming films from Sweden. You get tasters from the movies and the opportunity to have your questions answered by the filmmakers. Vem är du, Mamma Mu? A beloved teddy bear goes missing, and friendships are tested when Kråkan thinks that a cow should be a cow, but Mamma Moo wants to be more than that. When Mamma Moo takes inspiration from the children and wants to create her own moo-sical, she really makes a mess of things. Participants: Christian Ryltenius, director, Filippa Torstensson, producer Håkan Bråkan Håkan Bråkan thinks that Amanda is the most boring babysitter in the world. He must escape so he can win the most important video game competition. This is the beginning of a series of misunderstandings where Håkan gets mixed up with a bunch of thieves. To fight them in the real world, he must use the knowledge he learned from the video game. If he succeeds, he won’t just get to do some gaming in peace and quiet – he’ll also save the whole neighbourhood. Participants: Ted Kjellsson, director, Malin Söderlund, producer LasseMajas detektivbyrå – Skorpionens gåta Ahead of Valleby’s 500-year celebrations, the town is paralysed by a series of burglaries. When all attempts to stop the thief fail, LasseMaja’s Detective Agency asks the retired master thief, Lillie Ragnarsson, for advice. Medverkande: Tina Mackic, director, Jonathan Ridings, producer Forever Forever is directed by Anders Hazelius, and the script is written by Jessika Jankert. The film focuses on Mila and Kia, who have been best friends and football teammates for as long as they can remember. When a new coach arrives, the girls slowly start to drift apart. Mila, who dreams of becoming a football pro, finally sees a chance to succeed – but is winning important enough for which to sacrifice your best friend? The film is produced by Stefan H. Lindén and Erik Lundqvist at SF Studios Produktion and is distributed by SF Studios and is co-produced with Film i Väst. Filming starts in May 2022. Participants: Jessika Jankert, script.
