Fahim flees from the unrest in Bangladesh together with his father. They hope that Fahim will be able to develop his talent for chess in France but starting over in a new country isn’t very easy. There is a culture clash as well as language confusion – and it becomes apparent that it takes a lot to impress the sullen chess teacher Sylvain, portrayed by a magnificent Gerard Depardieu.
